In Aghoo, Co. Leitrim we constructed a 14m underpass beneath the R204 at Aghoo Bridge on the Shannon-Erne Blueway, Co. Leitrim, for Waterways Ireland.
A 3m × 3m precast box culvert underpass was installed on 450mm dia CFA piles allowing Blueway trail users to pass under the road without joining the R204, plus 260m of new trail connections on both sides.
Key construction elements:
- 4-week R204 closure with a 20km diversion route
- Sheet-piled temporary retaining walls to protect the existing masonry bridge
- 10 no. CFA piles (450mm dia., 13m deep) with ground beams
- 7 precast box culvert sections lifted in by 230t crane
- Full road reconstruction, safety barriers, watermain diversion, and Eircom pole relocation
- Masonry repair and repointing of the existing bridge
