Replacement of two steel trough bridges with new precast bridges on the Dublin Galway Line between Athlone & Ballinasloe. The Works were located at two separate locations and both structures were replaced over a weekend during a 48-hour road closure and 32hr TIII possession of the railway line
The Works involved removal of the rail line, stripping the existing steel trough deck of ballast, gas cutting holes in the troughing for lifting points, and breaking out the steel bridge structure which the crane lifted onto a lowloader for recycling.
The precast bridge installation works involved removal of a course of masonry on the existing abutments, installation of the precast bed stones & doweling into the abutment prior to placing the precast bridge deck, installation of the steel handrails & walkway and reinstatement of the railway.
Ancillary works included, enabling works to create space & hardstand for the crane, extensive road closure & diversion with associated traffic management, fencing, devegatation of the structures, building of blockwork & masonry walls and reinstatement of the enabling works.
