Closure of level crossing XL061 by construction a 22m long underpass under the railway line. The underpass is 3.65m wide, 3m high and constructed of box culverts with Precast U & L units for wing walls & ballast retainers.
The Works involved removal of the rail line, diversion & propping of the line side cables, excavation of the embankment for the underpass, construction of foundation for the culvert, Installations of the box culverts & wing wall U units, waterproofing of the joints and structure prior to installation of the L wall ballast retainers, backfilling around the culvert and reinstatement of the railway.
Ancillary works included, laying temporary aluminium trackway to protect the field for construction access, diversion & piping of existing open drain, construction of crane hardstand & staging area for precast, traffic management, fencing, and reinstatement works of the site. The culvert was installed in less than 32hrs and railway line reopened. The fencing & reinstatement works were carried out the following week.
