Dublin to Galway Cycle Route – Moyvalley Ramp

Construction of a cycle ramp on the Galway – Dublin Canal cycleway to link the canal line to the L1002 at Moyvalley Masonry Bridge as part of the overall Royal Canal Greenway Scheme. The works were carried out on an island of ground between the canal & the railway.

The ramp was 47m long in total between the structural steel ramp structure and the concrete ramp section constructed on a retained embankment. The structural steel structure was install on 220mm Ø piled concrete foundations. The The works involved significant environmental controls including the treatment of Japanese Knotweed and installing root barrier to protect foundations form the knotweed.

The structural steel ramp included steel parapet railings and elefant decking. The installation of the ramp involved deconstruction of the masonry bridge parapet wall to install new precast bedstone and tie the ramp to the bridge. The bridge parapets were reconstructed around the new ramp.

Ancillary works included 460m of paladin fencing to the railway boundary, resurfacing the L1002 across the bridge, new public footpath and installation of stainless-steel bollards at the top of the ramp.
