Replacement of Level Crossings XM100 & XM101 with a new bridge over the railway and construction of public roads to link the closed crossings to the bridge. The bridge is a 15m span overbridge, constructed at a skew, using Opti-Cadre pre-cast System with precast parapets and reinforced earth wingwalls retaining the embankment. The embankment was constructed from site won and imported quarry material.
The existing public road was realigned to the bridge and new public roads were constructed to link the location of Level crossing XM101 with the new bridge. The road was finished with a 200mm macadam build up with existing approach roads resurfaced with double surface dressing. XM101 was then blocked up and closed. Xm100 was blocked up one on side and the other side was constructed as an Iarnrod Eireann compound and access point to the railway.
The works involved extensive upgrade works to the existing local road network to create sufficient access for the Crane and the volume of construction traffic involved in the works. Existing overhead cables were also diverted underground to facilitate the construction of the bridge. Ancillary works to the bridge structure included extensive fencing, installation of N2 safety barrier, drainage, signage, line marking, landscaping & reseeding.
