Construction of a 240m2 extension to existing building on site, refurbishment of an existing building and demolition of other older buildings on the site. The site is located at the top of Mt Leinster at approx. 800m above sea level. The works were phased around maintaining continued operation of 2rn activities on site, constraints as part of the EIA as the works were located in a SAC and weather with works being unfeasible during the winter due to the elevation.
The project was carried out in 3 Phases:
Phase 1: construction of New Transmission Building & site works
Phase 2: Equipment and systems transfer by 2RN
Phase 3: Completion of New Transmission Building, Refurbishment of the existing building, Demolition of other existing buildings and completion of site works.
The extension is an insitu RC framed building with infill blockwork wall and precast roof structure with entrance porch and connecting corridor to the existing building. The works to the existing building involved internal reconfiguration to created bunded fuel & generator rooms, offices, stores, canteen, shower & WC facilities.
Site works included replacement of existing services infrastructure for electrical, surface water, foul sewer and water mains around the site, new ESB substation and Boundary fencing.
