Repair works to Structural Steel Railway Bridge over the October Bank Holiday Weekend. The 80t Bridge was lifted out using a 750t crane. Repairs were carried out to the steelwork bridge deck and the ends of the main beams were abrasive blasted and painted with protective paint system. New precast bedstones were installed and precast run-on slabs on both abutments prior to the bridge & railway line being reinstated.
The Masonry abutments were reduced by 1 course and prepared prior to new precast bedstones and run on slabs being installed. The bedstones were fixed into the masonry abutment with 32mm dowels. The bridge deck & precast was waterproofed prior to reinstating the railway track & ballast.
The bridge was removed, repaired, painted, precast installed & bridge reinstated within 54hrs. completion works including repointing & reinstatement were carried out the following week.
Ancillary works included, enabling works to create space & hardstand for the crane, extensive road closure & diversion associated traffic management, sleeving & isolation of overhead ESB during crane lifts, fencing, devegatation of the structure, installation of new handrail rails and rebuilding the masonry approach walls to tie into the bridge.
